In recent years everything has centered on acoustic performances. John has always loved creating and recording; putting the pieces together. But scaling it all back and presenting it in a more closely shared environment - it’s given him a new appreciation for performance – and it shines. “Sometimes the shows are really conversational, humorous; and sometimes I’m just in my own world. But I’ve been really blessed lately; at either extreme or the points between, we all enjoy the time.”

In Austin since the mid 1980s, John has made his way through several great and largely unknown bands. Austin’s live music venues provided plenty of opportunities, but the groups never stayed together long enough to break beyond the local clubs. Through it all, there was the occasional radio airplay. And there were performances aired on local cable television channels, and favorable mentions in the press. In 1998, John recorded a solo CD - singing all parts, playing all instruments. It was sent all over the world in search of a label, but no band was formed until the second CD, puzzle, was published. "I'm very lucky to know these guys.
